Welcome!

Hello everyone!

Welcome to KGC’s Sewing Blog! The goal of this blog is to offer my fellow seamstresses the insight on what patterns and hacks I use for my creations, in hopes that it will inspire you to make timeless vintage pieces of your own. The goal of mine is to post at least two blogs a month (but hopefully more!) and I thought it would be best to use my first one to introduce myself!

I am Kristen and I absolutely LOVE to sew clothes, especially for my girls (ruffles just CANNOT be beat). I started out sewing when I was ten years old through my local 4-H club. The first piece of clothing I ever made was a pair of pink camo shorts for myself. I was soooo proud of them and even submitted them into the county fair that Fall. They won me a blue ribbon and $5, I thought I was amazing lol. I didn’t really sew much after that, but my love for crocheting and embroidering blossomed during this time and I have so many sweet memories of my Great Grandmother and Great Aunt giving me numerous tips and new techniques every time I went to visit.

Fast forward to when I was pregnant with my first daughter, Kaelynn Grace. Her pregnancy seemed to drag on, so to help keep myself busy I decided to make her a pair of houndstooth ruffle pants (Roll Tide). Since I was a blue ribbon winner, I figured that I could tackle this feat with a self drafted pattern. IT WAS A DISASTER! The legs were two different lengths, I attached the ruffles to the outside of the pant’s leg, and do not even get me started on my oh so uneven gathers. But, I was so proud of them! You better believe that baby wore them once she arrived and I even documented the moment. I now cringe every time I look at that picture.

My next piece was a romper for her first Easter photos. I learned my lesson and bought a pattern on Etsy. It took me two days (a total of TWELVE hours) to complete it. Unlike my last creation, this one turned out beautifully and is now sweetly tucked away in her baby box. Since then, I haven’t stopped sewing clothes for her and thankfully I have gotten a lot better and faster- LOL!! Also, I can now successfully self draft patterns without regretting it in the end. I actually dream about being a pattern designer now and have decided to make it one of my goals for the future!

I now am the mommy to four beautiful children, two of which are sweet girls! You may see posts with the boys every now and then, but the girls are going to be my models 99% of the time. I mean, have you ever tried to tell a toddler boy not to get clay on the shirt you just spent 2 hours cutting, sewing, and ironing? Or tried to tell him not to pick his nose while you are trying to get pictures of him modeling your newest creation? If you have, then you know it is not fun lol.

I am currently a tester for two different pattern companies: Violette Field Threads and Simple Life Pattern Company . Both of these companies offer girl patterns and their patterns will be the focus of the majority of my blog posts. I know you are going to love them just as much as I do!

If you are not a seamstress and/ or you are just interested in buying one of my pieces, be sure to join the Kaelynn Grace Clothing Facebook group and check the Catalog section of my website frequently. There I will be posting dresses, shorts, tops, rompers, bonnets, and many other pieces for sale!

If you have read this far, thank you! I am so excited to start this new journey with you all. If you have any questions now or along the way, feel free to email me at kaelynngraceclothing@gmail.com!

Enjoy!
