{Give Thanks} Riley Blake Designs Collection

Fall is in the air and I couldn't be more excited! Falling leaves, sunflower fields, and pumpkins are some of the most iconic symbols for one of my favorite seasons. Because of this, I quickly fell in LOVE with the {Give Thanks} fabric collection by Sandy Gervais for Riley Blake Designs.

I chose to pair the Give Thanks Main Cream and Give Thanks Diamonds Olive together. When I ordered the fabric I honestly had no vision in mind. When it arrived at my mail box, I STILL HAD NO VISION! I knew I wanted to incorporate Simple Life Pattern Company's Felicity in some way, but I just couldn't "see" anything in my head. So I did something I have never done before.... I just started cutting hoping some idea would pop into my head. I do NOT recommend this technique (LOL!) but I am in love with then end result!

I chose to make my Felicity (find Baby Felicity HERE) without neck and arm scye ruffles and to make it with closed back. I added a self drafted bow that I added to help give the bodice some contrast. For the bow, I made each strip 2" by 35" and assembled it like I would bias tape. Then I made a double ruffled skirt ! I wanted the dress to fit vintage length which is not an option offered with Felicity. So I self drafted my own second skirt based on Felicity's top measurements!

I made my daughter a size 4 which called for a 10" long top. I cut my top skirt to this length. Then I cut my second skirt lining .5" shorter than my top skirt. I wanted about 3" of ruffles exposed which after considering seam allowance and the hem brought me to cut approximately 4.25" wide ruffles that were four times the skirt length long (these measurements can be find in the Felicity pattern). After joining, hemming, and ruffling my ruffles I attached it to my second skirt. Once both skirts were finished, I layered them and lined my side seams up. I basted them together at the top and then added my placket according to the directions. Finally, I gathering them together which reduced bulk at the waist of the dress.

As a last minute detail, I added three buttons to the front of the bodice. The neutral colored buttons from Hobby Lobby matched the brown's found in the fabric perfectly!

Be sure to check out your local fabric retailer to get your favorite fabrics from the {Give Thanks} Collection!
